Electronic Visit Verification

Electronic Visit Verification, known as EVV, is a federally mandated initiative that is designed to mitigate fraudulent billing and neglect of vulnerable persons by caregivers. The 21st Century Cures Act mandates that all states implement EVV.

***Please read the MCW 1/14/22 memo regarding the EVV Soft Launch Extension.***

EVV has been required since November 2, 2020, when DHS implemented the soft launch phase of EVV for all Medicaid-covered personal care and certain supportive home care services that are rendered by any provider that is authorized to do so. This may apply to:

  •  SDS Services and Fiscal Agent Organizations that offer personal care services or assistance with ADL needs
  • Supportive Home Care Agencies
  • Personal Care Agencies
  • Supportive Visits providers

We want to be partners in the successful implementation of EVV.  Below you will find resources, updates, and the latest My Choice Wisconsin EVV Forum information. We encourage you to visit the DHS EVV website often and to reach out to the Wisconsin Customer Care (833-931-2035) with any general EVV questions you may have. For EVV questions pertaining specifically to My Choice Wisconsin, email us at [email protected]

 FAQs:

  • Does MCW require EVV for live-ins?  No. Individual providers may require EVV for live-ins, but MCW does not.  Providers should use the KX modifier to identify services provided by a live-in worker.
  • Does MCW require members to confirm visits?  No. Individual providers may require this.
  • What is MCW doing to educate members/caregivers on EVV?  MCW has developed marketing materials for members, including an introduction to EVV sent in every new member packet and a mailer to all members with caregivers impacted by EVV explaining why EVV is important and where the caregiver can go for help. We are also updating our SDS Handbooks with EVV information and adding content to our website.
