MCW members qualify for free rapid, at-home COVID-19 tests through their ForwardHealth card at Medicaid-enrolled pharmacies. This new benefit makes it easier for members to test for COVID-19 without having to go to the doctor.
- No cost – no copay, fee, or cost for individuals on Wisconsin Medicaid programs, or those with both Medicaid and Medicare
- No paperwork or forms – just present your physical ForwardHealth ID card or the electronic copy on the MyACCESS mobile app on your phone
- Eight (8) at-home tests per person, per month – based on current stock, all eight may not be available at one time
Who cannot get tests through their Medicaid program?
If you have other private insurance, ForwardHealth will not cover your test. Ask your private insurance company how they can pay for the tests. Participants in limited-benefit programs like SeniorCare, the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), the Wisconsin AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), or the Wisconsin Chronic Disease Program (WCDP) cannot get test kits through ForwardHealth.
The 1/26/2022 Department of Health Services memo explains why testing is so important: “Self-testing is one of several risk-reduction strategies that can reduce the chances of COVID-19 transmission. Ensuring Wisconsin residents have convenient and affordable access to at-home tests is one of several measures, along with vaccination, masking, and physical distancing, that will limit the impact of COVID-19 on our state.” Detailed information about the free tests can be found on the DHS website.
