Tell Me Something Good – Katie

At My Choice Wisconsin, our staff regularly receive uplifting emails from our Member Advisory Committee. These feel-good messages make our week and we’re pleased they have agreed to include you in sharing their positive thoughts!

As we officially begin summer, our message today comes from MAC emeritus member, Katie. She talks about getting out in the community again since being fully vaccinated. The photo is a collage of some of the MAC members enjoying being out in the community since becoming fully vaccinated.

“I have been dreaming of being an active part of the community again. I want to be able to go out to the zoo, or an art fair, or even just shopping. I want to go to the Senior Center and engage with others. I want to go, to see, and to do so much. These are goals that I wanted on my Member Centered Plan. The plan is not just about disability or illnesses, it is about how I want to live.

There have been so many reasons that getting out has been delayed. Years of chronic illness followed by decreased mobility and then COVID restrictions mean that it has been a very long time since I have been out and about.

My care team not only supports my health goals, they want me out in the community too. So, now I have a wheelchair for long distances. I have rides to go places and even a companion to push the wheelchair. I am fully vaccinated. All this so I can go beyond the walls of my apartment.

I am so happy and grateful to My Choice Wisconsin and my care team. They really support me!” – Ktie
