Please continue to call 800-273-8255 for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline until the launch of 988 on July 16, 2022.
Starting July 16, 2022, a new phone line will be open to all Americans who needs support for a suicidal, mental health, and/or substance use crisis. 988 will accept calls, texts, and online chats. If you are concerned about a loved one in crisis, you may also call 988.
Previously a 1-800 phone number, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline will be changing it’s name and number as of July 16, 2022. It will then be called the “988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.”
Wisconsinites who use the 988 line will be connected to Wisconsin Lifeline, the only National Suicide Prevention Lifeline-affiliated call center in Wisconsin. Counselors are trained to listen and support callers with a focus on de-escalation and coping skills.
Please continue to call 800-273-8255 for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline until the launch of 988.
