MY WHY – Lindsey, Care Manager

At My Choice Wisconsin, our employees are passionate about the work we do. We come from all walks of life but are united by a dedication to serving our members and helping them find ways to live their healthiest, most independent lives. Read on to learn WHY we come to work every day!

When I went to college and was considering my degree, I wanted to do something that would give me an opportunity help people of many different backgrounds and challenge me with a variety of work so things weren’t the same the same day in and out. During this same time, I was working as a caregiver for a member, working as a Self-Directed Support. It was then when I contacted My Choice to intern for them as a program that I needed to complete for my degree.

After completing some research, my internship, and speaking with others, social work was the path I chose. I started working in the field right after graduation and can say it has offered great variety while also challenging me.

MY WHY has to do with caring for our members. It’s plain and simple – serving our members is the main reason I enjoy my work. We improve the lives of others and their loved ones by providing services that help them remain as independent as possible in the community they live in. More than that, we have the opportunity to help members find their own drive and motivation to reach their goals.

The work we do is complex and there are days that are challenging. That’s where the outpour of support we receive from our supervisors and other co-workers comes in. The sense of teamwork helps to make the challenges we face more manageable.

My co-workers are also part of MY WHY. Their drive and dedication to this field helps me want to do the same for them and my members. Without the support and guidance from my co-workers, it wouldn’t be the same. I appreciate them every day.
