RENEW NOW: those members whose renewal cycle ends April 30, 2024, renew by April 17, 2024 to avoid delays or a gap in coverage.

My Choice Wisconsin offers programs for individuals that qualify for Medicaid. Due to the COVID-19 emergency, Medicaid put temporary policies in place so more people could get and keep Medicaid benefits.
One of those temporary policies allowed members to continue coverage without renewing their Medicaid eligibility. The federal government has announced a change to these temporary policies. This means Medicaid programs will return to the regular renewal process that was in place before the COVID-19 emergency began. In March 2023, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) sent you a notice with your planned renewal date. Your renewal packet will be mailed to you a month before your renewal date.
If you have been enrolled in Medicaid or BadgerCare Plus at any time since March 2020, you still have benefits! Continue using your benefits to get the care you need to stay healthy.
Make sure your contact information is correct. Log in at access.wi.gov, download the MyACCESS mobile app, or contact your local agency to update your contact information.
Check your mail! In March 2023, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) will send you a notice with your planned renewal date. Your renewal packet will be mailed to you a month before your renewal date.
Your renewal date has been uploaded to your ACCESS account. You can view your renewal date by:
clicking on your health care program “Details” magnifying glass on your home page, or
by going to your “My Benefits” screen, or
by selecting “Renew my Benefits” and viewing your “Benefits Renewal Overview” page
On March 6, 2023, a letter with your renewal date was uploaded to ACCESS on View My Letters tab. You will receive a letter in the mail from DHS with your renewal date sometime between mid-March to early April. If you do not receive a letter, please contact your Income Maintenance (IM) agency at https://dhs.wisconsin.gov/forwardhealth/imagency/index.htm for assistance and information.
REMINDER: please make sure your mailing address is correct in ForwardHealth by going to ACCESS.wisconsin.gov.

The State will NEVER:
Ask you for personal information, like your birthday or Social Security number
Ask you for financial information, like your bank account or credit card number
About two months before your renewal is due, DHS will see if there is updated information on file for you through other state programs. If information is found and you still meet the rules for getting benefits, DHS will send you a letter letting you know your benefits will be renewed. This is called an “administrative renewal.”
If DHS does not have enough information on file, they will mail you a renewal packet about one month before your due date. It tells you what you need to do and the due date. Taking action as soon as you get your renewal packet can help make sure you keep your benefits.
You can only renew your coverage when you get your renewal packet from DHS. Follow the instructions you receive in your renewal packet.
You must complete your renewal by your due date in order to continue your benefits. If you do not, your benefits will end.
You cannot renew early.
Check your renewal packet that you received in the mail for your due date and instructions.

Online: Log into http://www.access.wi.gov and click on the alert that says, “Benefit Renewals Due for.”
By mail: Fill out your paper renewal packet and return it by mail.
By phone or in person: Contact your local agency to set up an appointment. Please be aware that wait times to renew by phone or in person are expected to be very high during this time.
You may have to provide updates on things like your household details, income, assets, and insurance. You may be asked to submit proof of your answers later.
Remember, you cannot renew your coverage until you get your renewal packet.
NOTE: You only need to obtain a PIN if you do not have a Social Security Number.
To get a PIN, contact ForwardHealth at 1-800-362-3002 (1-888-701-1251 (TTY). You will need to provide your full legal name and birthdate. Once the PIN is provided you can continue to set up your ACCESS account.
If you receive a renewal packet from DHS you must complete your renewal by the due date given in the packet. Your benefits will end if you do not complete your renewal by the due date.
Your local agency will follow up if they need more information. When they have finished looking at your information, you will get a letter that tells you if your benefits are staying the same or changing.
If you find out you are no longer eligible for Medicaid, you may be eligible for coverage through the health insurance marketplace. There are monthly tax credits available to help lower the monthly premium cost. To avoid a gap in your health care coverage, take the following steps right away:
